Audience Effects Theory

1) Write a definition of a passive audience
This is the view that audiences passively take in information from the media and that these messages have the same effect on everyone
2) Write a definition of an active audience: This is the more modern and generally accepted view that audiences interact with and make conscious choices regarding the media they consume.

3)Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory: this is the suggestion that audience are always passive and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds.this assumes.

4)Blumler and Katz:
INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE:

Blue planet 2

> Why: This is because it is a documentary that

teaches you about the under water life and under water creatures that are not discovered

in the oceans.

WHY: People who have gone will relate as they may be reminded of kinds of people at their school. Additionally, teachers may relate to the types of teachers at the school.

DIVERSION/ENTERTAINMENT: incredibles

WHY: The audience have the chance to be distracted by a piece of media about something very different from their own lifestyle.

RELATIONSHIPS: fast and furious

WHY: Long time viewers of the show often come to love the character of Sherlock or Moriarty and will watch the show to find out what happens to them

Q5) in this clip, one of the audience pleasure
is called the 'information/surveillance'. this
provides information about the ocean(lives
of the sea creatures are explained).another
audience pleasure is called diversion. this is
the voice over "magical fantasy","fairy tale".it
also shows bright colours and deep sea.

Q6) Extension task
"SATURDAY NIGHT TAKE AWAY"
in this clip, my audience pleasure is called
diversion/entertainment. this is pranking other
celebrities to an extreme extent for entertainment
of the audience.Another audience pleasure
theory is voyeuristic. this is where hidden
cameras used as a disguise so audiences
have a "behind the scenes" role.

storyboard

we picked a wide establishing shot to show us the background and characters in the shot and it mostly has more background than the characters.
we used a medium shot to show us whats happening to the two characters in the shot scene which shows a character being bullied and another character as the bully hitting and hurting the innocent victim.

we did a medium shot to zoom in the characters facial expression. It shows us how the two characters feel to each other not the background since its zoomed in.
We used a over the shot to show us how the bully has more power and the victim is more weaker and in pain since the bully punished him with his strength.
A low shot is being used to show us the bully is the bullies facial expression which suggest he is looking at the victim with more power then the other weak and vulnerable character.
we used a close up to show the character's facial expression which suggest he's in pain and and hurt himself since his hands are on top of his shoulder.
we used a extreme close up to show the bullies eyes expression to the audience which suggest he is very angry at something/someone.

we used a medium close up to show the character being abused by the bully since his hands are gripped at the victim and pushed towards the wall.

we used a unusual shot taken from the tree to show a different angle being used in the storyboard which many people may not use since its unusual.

we use a birds eye shot to show us the vulnerable victim is powerless and is weaker than the powerful bully who has more power since the victim is injured.

Mise-en-scene

mise en scene
Mise-en-scène is a French word/term for ‘Put on Stage’. It refers to the Media language used by the producer in their media product to communicate with their audience so…everything we see on screen. We can remember what this includes using the acronym CLAMPS:
  • Costume
  • Lighting
  • Actor placement and movement
  • Make-up
  • Props
  • Setting
Lighting:
The lighting used in Stranger Things as quite dull and bright at the same time. This is when we explore in the science lab were they lights on but still quite dark. Then inside Mikes house is quite bright and there is a lot of light. The bulbs would continuously twinkling switching on and off.
Costume:
The theme of stranger things are set in 1980s and then they make it looks like it was 1980 so they dressed them in old clothes. It shows that its set in 1980.
Setting:
It is set in Indiana in Hawkins science lab and Mikes house.

The denotation of Stranger Things is a group of friends that stop a supernatural creature that decides to attack them. The scientist running was in fear shows something bad happened.

The connotation of Stranger Things is the bulbs that sparking switching on and off. This curiosity to the audience on why on earth is a bulb important in a story that a supernatural creature wants to kill.

Reception Theory

1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?
A preferred reader is the creater intends for the audience to understand.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?
Oppositional reader is the opposite of preferred reader what the creater opposite understanding.

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?)
The trailer positions the audience to respond to the young people as dangerous and unprotected as they are easily influenced.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an Oppositional reading of the trailer?
The producer may be stereotypical as the trailer is clearly demonstrating all young people are associates with gang culture.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an Oppositional reading of the trailer?
A majority of teenagers might do this because they know that teenagers just want to join in with the society in crimes and they want to be a better person/better role models to others.

5) Write a 200 word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and Oppositional readings?
preferred reading-would be a the trying to convince the consumers to buy their product/their mouth-watering big and juicy burger.
oppostional reading-some customers would agree with the advert and would feel displeased since all of the information about the big mac is false and not true.others may disagree since there vegetarian and they don't eat meat.
neogiated reading-not everybody likes burgers some may prefer other things.

Camerawork analysis of your choice

THE FLASH

1) Three camera shot
The shot at 2:03 it shows an over the shoulder shot at the flash saving a innocent girl who appears to be superwoman.the flash saved superwoman and all of a sudden she flew away and the flash ran and caught up to her in a confusement of who is she.

The shot 3:07 shows a medium shot that shows the flash and superwomans full body from head to toe.the video clip shows the flash and superwoman walk while the flash suggest that if he has a race with superwoman's speed and his speed he might break the diementional barrier and get back home.

The shot 3:36 shows a eye level shot of superwoman asking asking if its a race.the flash replies "yes i guess."which starts a laughter between both characters thinking their faster than each other so after they finish their conversation they began to have a race.

 2)Analyse the camera movement
In the beginning it shows the flash's friends testing the flash's speed by recharging his energy with a tachyon device which powering up the speed force in your cells like a quick charge battery.(00.15-00.35)

This changes the scene when the flash gets into another diemension and saves superwoman from falling down a sky scraper.Notice the camera from(1:12) is shot in a low angle to show the flash beaming towards superwoman and saving her from falling on to the ground.

There also was a jump shot at 0.30 which shows the flash's friends on computers programming the flash's speed then it jumps to the flash warming up before he runs.

Camerawork and Editing final blog tasks

This is a medium shot since its showing all the police officers and less background.we know that their worried about something since the police has his mouth wide open by the look of the facial expression.this suggest there is a criminal that their trying to capture.

This is a medium shot since it shows the background and also the main character so the audience can see where they are at.This shot is great for showing the action of the background. From this shot i would assume/guess that the character is running away from the police and the character is in a dead end so he will be captured.
This is a close-up. The character's face is zoomed in so he's face takes the whole space in the photo this allows us to see his reaction and his facial expression to in the scene. In this photo it shows a man who is worried or scared about whats going to happen to him which suggest that the man is looking at something/someone  however we don't see what he is looking at we only see his facial expression . This makes the audience feel curious at whats going to happen.
